[October 23, 2014] — The Tampa Bay Business Journal recognized CSDVRS, LLC (doing business as ZVRS & Stratus Video) as the top innovator in the Tampa Bay area during its annual Tampa Bay Business 100 awards ceremony. The award was given to recognize the company for its innovative spirit in providing video relay services (VRS) and video remote interpreting (VRI) over the Internet.
The company’s innovative spirit blossomed after Apple introduced FaceTime, and ZVRS CEO Sean Belanger saw a golden opportunity. As quoted in an article from the Tampa Bay Business Journal, Belanger commented having “sent an e-mail to Steve Jobs, a very concise e-mail about who I was, what I did and we needed help. In four days, I get a call from a guy who said ’I’ve been told to help you, I don’t know why, I don’t know who you are, I work for Apple and I can’t tell you who told me to call you’.”
After Apple sent three engineers to ZVRS’ Headquarters in Clearwater, Fla., the first mobile VRS service was born, empowering deaf and hard of hearing Americans to make mobile VRS calls.
